Microsoft Buy Over Nokia

Microsoft will buy Nokia handset business for 5.44 billion euro . Nokia once the handset market dominator decides to exit handset business. It is the chance for Microsoft the maker of Windows moves into hardware to boost growth.

Microsoft will pay 3.79 billion euros for the devices unit and 1.65 billion euros for its patents under the deal, the Finnish company said in a statement. It is a win-win situation for both companies 's employees, shareholders and consumers, said Microsoft CEO in a statement.

The acquisition news push up the Nokia shares by 38 % higher in early trading.  Nokia investors are welcome the deal and its price. Nokia is dealing with cash flow challenge causing by weaker demand. Nokia is losing its battle with its competitor Apple and Samsung. Its handset market share is keep dropping over the past few years and lost more than 5 billion euros in 9 quarters.

Microsoft has try to stay relevant to consumers market as consumers shift their behavior from using its Windows personal computers to mobile devices.  Global mobile devices demand is doubling every years and its demands still keep going up while personal computer sales drop year over year. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung has just launched a super size version of Galaxy Note smartphone, called Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 on Monday which made debut in Germany and United Arab Emirates. As the name suggest, Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 features a touch screen of 10.1 inches. It is double the size of its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy Note which is 5.3 inch touch screen.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 powered by Google’s Android operating system and equipped with quad-core processor. With quad-core processor, it allows users to run multiple applications at faster speed and allows users to split the screen in half to display two programs at once side by side. This is totally a great feature for multi-tasking.

Again, like its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 comes with a stylus called S Pen to write notes or draw on the screen. It is a great alternative for typing, especially if you don’t feel wanted to type after whole day of working in the office typing in front of computer.

Samsung Electronics said the new smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 official release date in the US would be on 15 August.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Samsung Galaxy Note, the first smartphone that features large screen display at 5.3 inch, act like a combination between Android smartphone and tablet PC first release in September last year. Although there are some critism about this so-called phablet massive size, Samsung claims that Galaxy Note have sold seven million units across the world up-to-date. The success of Samsung Galaxy Note has led Samsung to consider a sequel, Galaxy Note 2.

There are rumuor said that Samsung Galaxy Note successor Galaxy Note 2 release date is set to October 2012. From all of the speculations and rumours from various sources and it has been one year down the road for Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 release date is pretty match the fact and condition.

The speculation suggests that Galaxy Note 2 will follow the footprints of the Galaxy S3 and feature technologies such as S Beam, S Voice (a voice- activated personal assistant), Near Field Communication (NFC), Smart Stay, BuddyShare, Wireless charging capabilities and TouchWiz UI. This time Galaxy Note 2 will feature a even bigger dislay than Galaxy Note, at 5.5 inch.

The Galaxy Note 2 expected to  features WSXGA screen with a resolution of 1050×1680 pixels and a pixel density of 360 pixels per inch (ppi). Like the others in the Galaxy family – the Note,  Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3 – Galaxy Note 2 will have a Super AMOLED (non-Plus) display from the Pen Tile matrix family. The reason behind Samsung opting for this display type is its durability and power-efficient nature, compare to true RGB AMOLED Plus displays.

We believe that Galaxy Note 2 will retain the Galaxy S3 8MP camera but come with an enhanced lens and better image sensors for photographs and videos. The global version of the Note 2 could offer 4G LTE connectivity. However, unlike its predecessor, the Note 2 will come with slightly more RAM at 1.5GB.

There are different rumours about its processor that to be used for Galaxy Note 2. Some has mentioned that it will be Samsung Exynos 5250 1.5GHz dual-core processor, while other sources suggest that Galaxy Note 2 will have similar features to Galaxy S3, which mean it will use Exynos 4 Quad core processor. Exynos 4 Quad core processor features a higher clock frequency that expected to be 2 times the processing capability that Exynos 4 Dual core and better 3D
graphics performance.

One of Samsung smartphones strength is its battery life. Galaxy S3 has features a long battery life to compete with HTC One X. The original Galaxy Note already has an amazing battery life, however the oversized chassis should be able to accommodate a bigger battery. Hopefully, Galaxy Note 2 battery life will be another WOW factor for its loyalty customers.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was recently unveiled at the IFA 2012 event in Berlin on 29 August 2012. This is Samsung second reveal of large version smartphone, considered duplicating the success of its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 5.55-inch display, slightly bigger than its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note’s 5.3 inch. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 features Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors display screen. Its display screen was made of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for strong screen protection.

Although Samsung Galaxy Note 2 larger than Samsung Galaxy Note, it only weights on 180g (6.35 ounces) with the dimension of 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has improved touch-sensitive controls and improved TouchWiz UI interface with enhanced S-Pen stylus support.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will use Samsung latest processor chipset Exynos Quad with Quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 and features 2GB of RAM with latest Android operating system, Android 4.1 or called as Jelly Bean.

For camera, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has same feature like its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will have 8 MP, 3264×2448 pixels with autofocus and LED flash capability. It will features Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization functionality. It will also have second camera with 2MP.

Lastly and not least important, the time usage for the battery of Samsung Galaxy Note 2. As a big devices with such lightweight, how long will the devices able to support? Of course, Samsung always not disappoint its fans. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will features Li-Ion 3100 mAh battery compare to its predecessor Galaxy Note that using Li-Ion2500 mAh battery to maintain if not prolong the standby and usage time.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be released on October 2012. However, there is no indicator for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 price. As expected, it will follow its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note release price.

Microsoft Tablet PC Surface

To compete with iPads, Microsoft designed Surface tablet with PC concept of “works and plays”. CEO Steve Mallmer describe this ultra-thin covers-cum-keyboards in a range of colors tablet PC as a tablet that “works and plays” as he presents it at press event in Los Angeles yesterday. Microsoft also pitched this tablet PC to market as combined table and poster-sized touch screen computers that also suitable to be used in restaurants, shops, bars, and other more basic usage venues.

There are 2 version of Surface will be released to the market. One version is running on Windows RT software tailored made for ARM mobile chipsets that will be more lightweight, with measured 9.3 mm thick and weighed 676 grams. It will use 10.6 inch high definition screen display and its memory available for 32GB and 64GB.

Another version of Surface will be powered by Windows 8 Pro software that is more heavy and features higher specifications, with measured 13.5mm thick, weighs 903 grams and will be available with 64GB and 128GB.

Surface designed to a flip-out rear “kickstand” to prop it up like a picture frame with the cover, and when opened, it will acts as a keypad so tablets could be switched into “desktop” mode for work tasks. I think this is why Microsoft pitched that more sophisticated tablet PC Surface can be used for restaurants, shops, bars, and etc.

Forrester analyst Sarah Rotman Epps said this product marks a very crucial pivot in Microsoft’s product strategy. This time Microsoft put more focus on the consumer rather than enterprise. Looking on the increase of tablet PC market and shrinking of desktop computer from consumer market, we can understand how important Microsoft re-strategized its product line.

Recent press event doesn’t unveil its release date of Microsoft Surface. However, it is likely to be timed with the release of Windows 8 software later this year. Microsoft also did not specify what will be the market price for Surface.

Nokia Windows 8

Nokia is planning to unveil new smartphone powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system on 5 September 2012 in New York. It is the result under partnership between software giant Microsoft and Finnish Telco giant Nokia, in order to snap the market share that currently dominant by Apple’s iPhones and Google Android.

From the source, the beleaguered Nokia might also unveil its first foray device tablet computer at the event. Tablet computer has gain popularity in parallel with smartphones, gradually dominant the young consumer, replacing the laptop usage behavior. It is definitely a great revenue and market share for Nokia if success.

Nokia’s new strategy is phasing out its Symbian smartphones in favor of partnership with Microsoft, hoping that Microsoft Windows 8 operating system can re-survive it smartphones market share. Current released Windows Phone 8 is not upgradable for existing Nokia Lumia smartphones, warned Microsoft to its partner Nokia. This is definitely a severe hit to Nokia. However, it also create opportunity that Nokia supporter will buy the new Nokia smartphone in order to use Windows Phone 8 functionality and features, boost its new smartphones sales.

Named as Windows Phone 8 similar to its next-generation operating system for personal computers Windows 8, it will have key features like Windows 8 operating system that provide stages on which popular devices can play together. Windows Phone 8 is based on the same technologies that power Windows, the most successful and powerful operating system ever that used by more than a billion people ranging from offices to personal home usage.

Windows Phone program manager Joe Belfiore refers this breath breaking Windows Phone 8 software as the most advanced mobile OS Microsoft has ever made. He also said that Windows Phone 8 OS’ release date will be fall on this autumn this year. It is expected Windows Phone will made its debut with Microsoft own tablet PC Surface that expected release date will be autumn this year.

Windows Phone 8 and personal laptops, desktops and tablet PC will share common networking, security, media, web browser technology and common file system. Microsoft introduced its first tablet PC, the Surface on Monday in a clear stance to take on long term rival Apple’s market ruling iPads and Google’s Android. Google Nexus 7

Wednesday 27 June 2012’s Google I/O Developers Conference marked a strategic shift of Google from search engine giant that make the huge revenues from its online advertising into focusing to hardware. Google unveiled that it will launch its own Nexus tablet Nexus 7 designed to showcase the latest mobile operating software Android 4.1 nickname Jolly Bean.

Google Nexus 7 tablet will be manufactured by Taiwanese computer hardware maker Asus. Google Nexus 7 will features a lightweight design weighs about as much as a paperback book (340 grams), a 7 inch high definition screen display, and has a front-facing camera.

Google described Nexus 7 as “a powerful new tablet” which will makes everything extremely fast, including games. Nexus 7 is designed to provide a best-of Google experience optimized around content available at Google Play. Google is basically following Apple path to introduce a ecosystem of apps store (Google Play) and devices (Nexus 7) by its own brand to present to its customers.

Google Play is your digital entertainment destination, with more than 600,000 apps and games plus music, movies, and books,” said by a Google blog post.

“Hardware is a doorway to products and services. If you are going to use the Internet, you are going to have to use a device. Whoever makes those devices controls what services and products are offered to you,” an Internet analyst said.

The Nexus 7 will have Google latest Android mobile operating system, called Jolly Bean. With Android 4.1 Jolly Bean, the on-screen keyboard is smarter and more accurate with auto-correct feature, and can predict your next word. Voice-typing is also faster, working even when you don’t have a data connection. Google Now,  Google’ voice recognition kick start Google’s competition with Apple Siri and Samsung S Voice in virtual assistant.

Google priced its Nexus 7 tablet at US$199, which put it in direct competition with Amazon Kindle Fire. Although it is expected that Google sell Nexus 7 at cost or even at a loss, they are expected to make up for those loss with additional revenue from purchases made on Google Play, its apps and content store; additional traffic to its Youtube, and the advertising it earns from all of its Internet products.

Apple intends to end its five-year partnership with Google’s mobile mapping service next week when it unveil its own Apple mapping service, according to recent reports that Apple developed its own mapping service after subsequently purchase of three mapping service companies Placebase, Poly9, and C3 Technologies between 2009 to 2011. Apple own mapping service expected to be come along with new mobile operating software IOS 6 released on his autumn.

If Apple ditches Google Maps from the navigation service on the iPhone and iPad, it would be the latest fissure between two former allies. Their relationship has been degenerating into a bitter rivalry since Google’s release of Android operating system to compete the iPhone in the smartphones market. Since then, both companies have increasingly been encroaching into each other’s market share.

Processing the Google map requests from users of Apple’s devices has provided Google with valuable insights into mobile phones users’ locations and preferences. This information collected has helped Google better leverage it to sell more ads to local businesses.

None of the new features released by Google will be available for at least several more weeks. The upcoming options include Google maps that can be downloaded into smartphones for offline access and more 3D views- the latter coming from its own fleet of planes to better cater high resolution and detailed images especially when users enlarge the images. Besides providing 26 million miles of driving directions, Google’s maps now include imagery of most of the world’s neighborhoods. Mr. McClendon said that 75 per cent of the global population can now call up a high-resolution image of their home on Google maps, up from 37 per cent six years ago.

Google plans to embellish its maps with even more photos from remote areas, such as hiking trails in the Grand Canyon, with new equipment showcased recently. The photos will be taken from specially designed equipment attached to a hiker’s backpack. This gear will supplement photo-snapping bicycles that Google already has been dispatching to areas that cannot be easily accessed by cars.

The company also disclosed that its planes will photograph major cities to conjure more realistic 3D views of metropolitan landscapes in the Google Earth version of its maps. The aerial images taken by the planes are automatically converted into 3D views replicas using technology that Google has been developed.

San Francisco will be one of the first cities to feature the more vivid 3D views imagery. Google did not identify other cities on its 3D views list, but said the improvements will span communities with a combined population of about 300 million.

The option to download mobile maps for specific cities so they can be view it offline later will only be available on smartphones and tablet PC running on Google’s Android software in initial stage. Google maps have typically offered more tools on Android devices, including spoken turn-by-turn directions.

Apple Map

Apple on Monday introduced a new version of its mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad that includes new features, such as Apple map that let users zoom over a three-dimensional image (3D) of a city. The new Apple map software will replace current Google map service. Apple also overhauled its line of Mac computers.

Apple CEO Timothy Cook introduced the new products on the opening day of the company’s developer conference here.

Apple updated its ultra-light MacBook Air laptop with a faster microprocessor and an improved camera. But it made the boldest computer-line changes to its high-end laptop, the MacBook Pro, which is now one quarter thinner and has a high resolution “retina display” similar to the screen on new iPad and iPhone. Apple was able to slim down the laptop by eliminating its DVD drive and getting rids of its hard drive in favor of a faster storage technology called flash.

The new Apple mapping system for Apple’s mobile devices will provide drivers with turn-by-turn directions, a feature that has long been available free in smartpones running on Android operating system from Google. Apple map created the 3D view in its map services by taking aerial photos using military camera which is more higher resolution and more details and clear when enlarge. Google map service currently using satellite imagery, however when enlarge it become blur.

Google has been building up its mapping services since 2005. Just last week, it held an event to show it was adding 3D maps to Google Earth, its service that shows satellite imagery to compete with Apple map which is providing 3D mapping system. It said it would allow Android users to download and store maps on their devices so that they can viewed without an Internet connection – a feature that Apple map service that still lag behind Google map service. Apple can use the leverage its millions of customers to help it catch up. The company said that its iPhone customer would be anonymously collecting traffic information for its database.

Other new features in the new operating system IOS 6, include improvements to SIRI, the voice-activated virtual assisant in the latest iPhone. While SIRI initially worked with a limited set of Internet services, it would now let users search for sports statistics, make restaurant reservations using OpenTable and look up show times for movies. SIRI also has a new function called Eyes Free. Eyes Free will allow drivers to communicate with it by pushing a button on their cars steering wheels.

Apple has reached an agreement with Facebook to weave the social network more deeply into its devices, allowing people to share photos on Facebook, for example, without having to open a separate Facebook app. The new features in the operating system will become available for iPhones, iPad and the iPod Touch when IOS 6 is released in Autumn.

Google Chrome for Apple

At the recent Google I/O Conference on Thursday, Google announces its release of Chrome web browser to iPad and iPhone. Currently Apple devices are in-built with Apple own web browsing programs Safari. The Internet search giant SVP said that the Google want to make it easier to use its software across all “your platform and all your devices”.

“People could start browsing with Chrome on a Macbook and then pick up where they left off on a smartphone, tablet, or other computer”, Rakowski demonstrated at the company’s annual I/O Conference  for developers. This can be done provided users sign in with the Google account before they start to search. We have known that current Google Chrome already has features like remembers bookmarks and other settings. Google has synchronize all the web browsing across all the devices for better web browsing experiences, as we know now many people have iPad, iPhone and laptop at the same time. It is definitely exciting news to technology lovers.

Apple has officially unveiled its latest version of mobile platform IOS 6 for smartphones and tablet PC at the San Francisco Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC, on Monday 11 June 2012. IOS 6 release date will be expected at this autumn and applicable to iPad 2, the New iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S.

The IOS 6 will have few new important and useful features to attract users embrace for its apple devices, and better distancing itself from Google Android.

1. Apple maps – Recently Apple unveils that it will use its own Apple maps to replace previous Google maps. With Apple maps, users can use its turn-by-turn navigation function, real time traffic updates that collect data from Apple mobile users, and a clear 3D city images.

2. Apple Siri – Apple designed voice-activated virtual assistant with improvement version will allows more functionality from previous Siri version. New Siri version let users search for sports statistics, make restaurant reservations using OpenTable and look up show times for movies.

3. Facebook – Apple has integrated Facebook into its devices, to allow people to share posts and photo easily and instantly without having to open a separate Facebook app.

4. Apple Passbook – Apple Passbook will allow users to store tickets, boarding passes and loyalty cards on their iPhone. When checking in for a flight, users will be able to select Apple Passbook as an option for delivery of their boarding pass. It will then appear automatically at the airport

5. Facetime – IOS 6 allows Facetime video chat to work over cellular networks instead of just for WiFi network previously, making it easy for people to make video phone call anywhere. However, remember that it will utilize huge data usage, translated to high data bill.

6. Security – IOS 6 implement more stringent security by prompting users when apps and services are trying to access private data. Contacts, reminders, photos and calendars are now categorized as protected personal data and apps can no longer access them without permission.

7. Auto Layout – Auto Layout allows interface elements to move and shift based on a specific parameters. Auto Layout significantly hints that Apple will release iPhone 5 with larger screen display. Although not specified at the Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC, it is expected iPhone 5 release date will be on this autumn.

iPhone 5 IOS 6 Youtube

The rift between Apple and Google just go wider. Apple released a test version of its upcoming iOS 6 operating system on Monday, and developers are noticed that YouTube app was missing from its line-up of built-in apps.

Apple said in a statement that “our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended”. However, Apple added that iPhone 5and iPad2, new iPad users with iOS 6 still able to view YouTube through web browser, and Google was working on a new YouTube app that would be available through the Apple App store.

It is not surprisingly that Apple would drops built-in YouTube app from iOS 6. Google and Apple have suffered fallings-out in Silicon Valley when Google push into the mobile phone market with its Android operating system.

Apple has also stopped using Google Maps to power the mapping service in the new iOS 6 operating system. Apple own mapping service Apple Maps is used instead, to replace Google Maps.
